Now that I’ve had a full six months experiencing the new expansion and revision of the Alloy men’s products, a brief review is in order. My initial enthusiasm still remains. The anticipation of using these products after so many great product experiences proved once again Melaleuca is serious about being the best.
The timing of this six month review is ideal. My wife Sheryl and I do a good amount of bicycle riding together. We’re not super avid but we do ride often and sometimes in excess of 20 miles at a time. Being the middle of summer 2023, I’ve gotten a good amount of sun and my choice protection is a hat rather than sunscreen which is controversial at best. That means my face (and head for non hat rides) and other exposed body parts have a good amount of suntan. In addition to the closest shave of my life like I reported back in January, my very tan face is still baby soft/smooth and not at all weathered looking—a bit more pudgy than I would prefer but my youthful skin benefits from decades of facial care made even better by this new Alloy men’s facial care system.
From the beginning I was wondering how the upgraded Alloy Antiperspirant & Deodorant would perform with summer cycling. I’m exceptionally hot blooded so I do sweat with cycle riding but between the Alloy and the breathable, moisture wicking workout shirts I’ve had no issues with smelling like I just cycled for 25 miles. Besides, the perspiration isn’t a problem while riding because even a hot blooded person like me stays cool even at 90+ degrees while riding. It’s when you stop that body heat and sweating hits you hard and fast. Alloy gets my full endorsement for performing well.
What’s funny though is when I watched an interview with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actor Anson Mount last week after the latest episode of the new season. Mount plays Captain Kirk’s predecessor Christopher Pike (yes, I’m a Trek fan). He mentioned that he hates grooming which I totally relate to. The Alloy products most definitely add significantly to proper grooming and I don’t enjoy that aspect of it, but it’s well worth the effort even though I certainly don’t enjoy doing it and never have. At least when done, I do always feel a sense of gratification and confidence boost for having put in the effort to be my best self.
I have nothing but total satisfaction to report about the products but there is one caveat I really hope Melaleuca will fix. Every product in the Alloy Men’s Facial Care line except for the Shave Gel has a pump dispenser, and, with the exception of two products, they work flawlessly. Those exceptions are the Facial Serum and Mattifying Moisturizer. The pumps on those two are best described as way overzealous. The product comes out so fast it splatters and it is difficult to push the pump slowly enough to avoid the splattering effect.
I’ve also noticed the new version of the Alloy Bath Bar uses up more rapidly than the “classic” version but this doesn’t bother me. Scent differences are always a matter of opinion which will certainly vary with every user, and I’m fine with both versions in scent and performance. If the classic version were to make a comeback I would certainly revert back to it. If a longer lasting bar is desired, Melaleuca’s Gold Bar and Platinum Bar are long time, proven customer favorites that Melaleuca would be doomed to suffer serious wrath for if they ever dared to mess with those “sacred ground” products.
My overall review is favorable and the minimal issues in my own experience have nothing to do with product quality. Upgrading the above mentioned pump dispensers to behave like the vast majority of other Melaleuca products would render them a perfect score.
